About Me
Wealth of Experience
Since becoming licensed as a psychologist in Washington State in 1987, I have been providing cognitive-behavioral therapy to help people manage anxiety, OCD, and related disorders, and live a balanced, healthy life. After earning my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1983 from the APA-Approved California School of Professional Psychology-San Diego, I received post-doctoral CBT training at the pioneering Center for Cognitive Therapy in Newport Beach/Huntington Beach, California. I then became certified as a cognitive therapist and was selected as a Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies (A-CBT) In 2012, I became Washington state’s only A-CBT Certified Trainer/Consultant of CBT. Since 1990, I have served as a Clinical Faculty member at the University of Washington. I am also a member of the American Psychological Association, Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, National Register of Health Service Psychologists, Anxiety and Depression Association of America, Washington State Psychological Association, among other professional organizations, and hold staff privileges at Swedish Medical Center. I have helped several thousand clients achieve their personal goals. I believe my wealth of clinical experience is what attracts individuals from throughout Washington State to seek out my help.
Giving Back
I value giving back to our local community. For 30+ years, I have provided case supervision and training at the University of Washington in the departments of both Psychology and Psychiatry, helping to shape the next generation of cognitive-behavioral therapists. I present at professional conferences on anxiety disorders, OCD, Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors, CBT, and group therapy, and at community-based workshops and support groups for people with anxiety disorders, OCD, and Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors. I offer professional consultation services to medical and mental health providers in the area. In addition, I have participated as both a Research Scientist and Research Therapist in several depression treatment studies at the University of Washington.
Work-Life Balance
I am devoted to my profession but also consider myself an excellent role model for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Outside the office, my wife and I enjoy our empty nest and planning for our next rescue dog. For nine years, I co-lead and played guitar in a working 7-piece swing dance band. Currently I am playing acoustic blues and swing more casually with several musician friends. Other interests include sauna, daily exercise, reading, Hebrew, art, humor, partner-dancing, socializing with friends, and ultralight backpacking. In recent years, for example, I have hiked most Washington sections of the Pacific Crest Trail, and am always planning my next adventures.
